About

I am an Assistant Professor in the Section of Genetic Medicine at the University of Chicago. With over a decade of experience in molecular biology and metabolism research, my work focuses on understanding how molecular mechanisms influence health and disease, particularly in the context of RNA modifications, metabolic disorders, and aging.
Prior to this role, I served as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Research Associate at the Joslin Diabetes Center. My independent research has been supported by the NIDDK K99/R00 transition award, allowing me to explore the role of mRNA modifications in metabolic diseases and their connection to aging.
My journey in research began during my Master’s studies, when I joined the laboratory of Professor Rohit N. Kulkarni at Joslin as a Fulbright Research Scholar. This collaboration extended through my PhD in the Graduate Program of Basic and Applied Biology (GABBA) at the University of Porto, where I investigated epigenetic reprogramming in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Currently, my research centers on N6-methyladenosine (m6A), a reversible mRNA modification, to uncover its molecular and physiological roles in metabolic tissues. By addressing fundamental questions about m6A's impact on metabolic regulation and aging, I aim to contribute to the development of new therapeutic approaches for metabolic diseases.
